Maze Runner: The Scorch Trails (2015) – Tuesday’s Trailer

It’s finally here! I’ve waited for this movie ever since I read the book, and if it’s anything like that then this could be the grand success needed to elevate the series to the Hunger Games/Divergent level of popularity.

Carrying on from the first film, Scorch Trails follows Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and the Gladers on their journey to try and uncover secrets behind the WCKD organisation which put them in the maze. Their journey takes them through the Scorch, once a city but now a wasteland thanks to The Flare disease. Once again they face unimaginable creatures but also other people struggling in the wasteland – all the while wondering whether they are truly free or still under WCKD’s control.

I’ve read all of the Hunger Games books, all of the Divergent books and all of the Maze Runner books, and out of all of these I’ve always said The Scorch Trails is the best individual book. That means precious little though, as many books have been ruined by their subsequent movies and I wasn’t completely blown away by the first film. However, this trailer does show promise, as much promise as a first trailer can show anyway. There are signs that it is deviating away from the original plot, but that was always going to happen.

Set for release on the 18th September, it might not have too much competition in the box office. This is guaranteed to do better than the first film, the challenge for this is somehow competing with the might that is The Hunger Games, or even Divergent, that what this film needs to aim for.

I’m looking to do a special article on Dystopian tales in cinema and their seemingly meteoric rise, if you have any opinion on the subject or would like to contribute then get in touch!
